Current Management

After almost a year the current management has been on the board of ARCIIUM, the club has seen different variations of tune. Members have come and gone…

There have been days where there are no programs at all. Weeks and weeks of hoping and waiting passes by without a hint of activity for some. These periods of time can prove to be very challenging. For want of a program, some even resort to going to the local waterfalls nearby for a splash in the sun. For others, programs come and go as regularly as bus 91.

Those fortunate enough to have their own group of friends can and can afford it have the luxury of going on their own programs. Those who lack the resources either financially or in terms of knowledge of places and means of making it happen have to rely on the club programs which at times, can be hard to come by. Let me tell you guys a secret on how to get involved in many programs: “be at HS cafe from Monday to Thursday, 1300 to 1400 or be alert for updates in this website”.

At times, programs are endless up to the point it overlaps with other programs and the drones have no rest at all. Not to forget all the time and effort spent on studying because even though active, we shouldn’t lose track of what we are here for. We are students. We are here to study. In the fog of programs, activities, competitions and jobs, many lose track of their priorities and objectives of life here as a student. We should give ourselves a kick in the behind once in a while to reset our minds and set our priorities straight. I’m writing this as a reminder to myself as well.

The programs and activities are ok and many are satisfied with the flow and contents of the programs. But there is one common complaint shared by many; lack of gender diversification. Many a time, our programs are monotonous and are generally singularly gendered but the show must go on! Even though it is tolerated, but some quietly hold a grudge against the organizing committee. In their defence, i think they shouldn’t bear the full weight of the blame. Participants are also responsible of recruiting new flowers in order to keep the club lively. I remember an old saying: “if you want to taste the honey, be prepared to get stung by a bee”.

Due to the high-risked nature of our activities, we should be constantly reminded on taking the necessary safety precautions. A short briefing on the risks involved and the necessary precautions that should be taken before every activity would suffice. Just as a reminder to those who have forgotten because being human beings, our memory is not etched onto a magnetic disk for storage and it can be lost due to the highly volatile nature of neurons. Not to forget a short prayer to the Most Gracious and Most Merciful because He controls all. We can take all the necessary precautions and more but if He wills for something to happen, we are powerless to stop it.

With the elections coming up soon, many are contemplating the idea of maintaining the current management. Either they are satisfied with the current rule or they just can’t be bothered to find a replacement. Certain parties are prepared to topple the government at any time. Some have the qualities to run the show but they just don’t know it yet. Some think they can do it but are not aware of the hidden responsibilities that come with the job. Whatever happens, let’s just pray to Allah that the upcoming term is not just an improvement of the current term, but also better than all the previous terms.
